Features

Sustainable and Healthy Materials: Standard

We start by building with only with sustainable materials that can be, or have been, recycled, sustainably harvested wood, and non-toxic materials.

Super Efficient Building Envelope: Standard

Our proprietary building envelope ensures your home sips energy. We then take efficiency one step further by integrating all the building’s systems.

Energy Recovery Ventilator: Standard

ERV or HRV air exchange systems increase a building’s energy efficiency and health. These systems recover energy from the outgoing airstream via a heat exchanger, which allows heat to move between the two airstreams without mixing or cross-contaminating them, while providing a constant stream of fresh air.

Highest Performance Windows: Standard

In more demanding environments, that means triple pane glass, with argon between the panes, with low-e coatings to ensure an efficient building. In milder climates, doubled pane glass may be sufficient.

Low Impact Foundation System: Standard

Designed to be sturdy while being light on the earth - a minimal impact system that in many cases does not require excavation and is easy and fast to install. This works in most soil conditions, but not all - we can help you with that.

User Interface + Controls: Standard with optional upgrades

Because all the systems are integrated, shouldn't the controls be too. Chose form various control options from simple to totally tricked out.

Integrated Energy Module: Option

Everything you need to make, store and control your renewable energy - except for the solar panels which go on the roof. It also includes the most efficient HVAC system available.

Integrated Greenhouse + Water Module: Option

Grow your own food, collect, store and filter your rain water.

Composting Toilet: Option

Live off the grid far from or in the city. Composting toilets are a solution where a sewer system isn't available or convenient.

Integrated Solar Panels: Option

We can design and install your whole solar system and build it right in.

Integrated Canopy + Deck System: Option

Connect your buildings with our modular canopy and decking system.

Pavilion Module: Option

This expansion of the deck and canopy system is an extra room with storage space. Its great for outdoor dining and can integrate a tent curtain to instantly turn into another room.

No Preservatives – Human Health

It’s time to raise the bar – to expect more – from the places we occupy.

Food and drug companies are forced to disclose ingredients.  But when it comes to the place where you spend the most time – your home – there’s remarkably little transparency.  You deserve to know if there are materials or chemicals inside your home that pose risks to human health, the food chain or the environment.

At NODE, everything on the inside of our buildings is Red List free so that you know you are living in a healthy environment.  Almost everything on the outside is Red List free too – but in some cases lack of availability of some materials – or cost – force us to use the next best thing – in which case we will tell you.

Trust but verify:
In case you were wondering, the Red List isn’t our standard – it’s the toughest standard in the built environment and contains nearly eight hundred individual ingredients and chemicals. You can read more here.

Happiness

Can a building make you happier and more productive?  We design homes that connect you back to nature – to air, light, water, and even food.

When we design we bring nature in – allowing occupants to be inside and outside at the same time.  Biophilic design is a design strategy that incorporates these ideas – reconnecting people with the natural environment.

A home should be transformative – making you happier, healthier and more productive while benefitting the environment.  Buildings should reconnect us to, and make us more aware of, the interdependency of natural systems and cycles: good for everyone and everything.  Through this connection – nature and people mutually benefit and prosper.  Don’t take our word, there’s substantial science behind this.  Get more information at https://www.terrapinbrightgreen.com.
